Abstract

The freeze-fracture technique was used to study the organization of the plasma membrane of Fonsecaea pedrosoi, a polymorphic pathogenic fungus. The distribution of the intramembranous particles (IMPs) on the exoplasmic (E) and protoplasmic (P) faces of the plasma membrane was analyzed. While conidia forms of the fungi presented a larger number of IMPs on the protoplasmic than on the extracellular face. no significant difference was observed in mycelial forms. Invaginations of the plasma membrane were seen in conidial and mycelial forms.
