Abstract

Specializations of the apical and basal cell surfaces occurring along the Malpighian tubules of Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides are described. Three basic types of cells were detected with light and electrón microscopy, taken in account the cell form: prismatic, cuboidal and dome-like cells. However, a closer observation of these cells luminal surfaces with transmission electrón microscopy, permit distinguish eight different types, according to the microvilli display: two types in the distal, three in the middle and three in the proximal portion, of the tubulc.
