Abstract

An ultrastructural study was made in muscle needle biopsies from seven patients suffering from nervous diseases that have autoimmune components in their pathogenesis. Diagnoses included acute polyradiculoneuropathy (Guillain-Barré syndrome), múltiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and carcinomatous neuromyopathy. Two types of alterations were observed, the type of neurogenic atrophy and some microvascular abnormalities previously described in other autoimmune disorders. This study supports the idea that the autoimmune myopathy shows a characteristic histopathological picture
